FRACTIONAL CONSULTANT

  • Definition: A part-time, ongoing advisor or specialist hired to own a function or provide expertise without being full-time.
  • Cost: Hourly rate.
  • Duration: Long-term, usually a set number of hours/days per week.
  • Commitment Level: Part-time, often a few hours or days per week.
  • Use Case: Provide steady expertise in a function you don’t need full-time (fractional COO, CIO, or HRBP).
  • Partnership Type: Strategic & relationship based.

INTERIM CONSULTANT

  • Definition: A full-time, temporary leader or specialist brought in for a defined period to fill a gap, lead a project, or stabilize a role.
  • Cost: Hourly rate or project fee.
  • Duration: Short to medium term, usually 3-12 months.
  • Commitment Level: Typically, full-time or near full-time for the duration.
  • Use Case: Cover a leadership vacancy (interim CFO, CMO, or VP of Sales). Lead a major initiative (merger, turnaround, system implementation).
  • Partnership Type: Immersive.

ON-DEMAND TALENT

  • Definition: A specialist or consultant hired as needed for specific, short-term, or project-based work without ongoing commitment.
  • Cost: Hourly rate or project fee.
  • Duration: Short-term or one-off projects usually a few hours to a few weeks.
  • Commitment Level: As needed, flexible availability.
  • Use Case: Complete a specific project quickly. Fill immediate capacity gaps. Deliver short-term expertise.
  • Partnership Type: Flexible, transactional, but can evolve into recurring engagements.

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT

  • Definition: Centralized control of contingent staffing, with the program manager as the hub for all suppliers.
  • Cost: Hourly rate or monthly retainer, depending on complexity and duration.
  • Duration: Medium to long-term, usually 6–24+ months.
  • Commitment Level: Moderate to high — requires active collaboration, stakeholder alignment, and consistent reporting.
  • Use Case: Having a single POC for staffing vendors. Moving to a vendor neutral workflow. Investing in a VMS.
  • Partnership Type: Immersive.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS OUTSOURCED (RPO)

  • Definition: A third-party provider fully or partially manages your company’s recruiting function, from sourcing to onboarding.
  • Cost: Fixed monthly fee, per-hire fee, or hybrid. Economies of scale for high-volume hiring.
  • Duration: Medium to long-term (typically 12+ months).
  • Commitment Level: High. Requires integration with internal HR/talent teams and access to internal systems.
  • Use Case: High-growth companies, seasonal hiring surges, or organizations with no internal recruiting infrastructure.
  • Partnership Type: Operational; becomes an extension of your internal talent acquisition team.

EXECUTIVE RECRUITING

  • Definition: A specialized, relationship-driven search process to identify, attract, and secure top executive and leadership talent for permanent roles.
  • Cost: Project fee.
  • Duration: Until hire is made, usually several weeks.
  • Commitment Level: Full-time, permanent hire by the client company.
  • Use Case: Hire a C-Suite, VP, Director, or other senior leader. Strategic leadership transitions, succession planning, niche skillsets, and confidential hires.
  • Partnership Type: High-touch, consultative, long-term partnership focused on strategic talent acquisition.

STAFF AUGMENTATION

  • Definition: The temporary use of skilled professionals to supplement a client’s existing workforce for specific projects, skill gaps, or capacity needs.
  • Cost: Hourly rate.
  • Duration: Short to medium term, usually weeks to several months.
  • Commitment Level: Temporary, contract-based engagement.
  • Use Case: Increase headcount quickly for projects or seasonal surges. Backfill for leaves or vacancies. Access niche technical skills without permanent hire.
